The yet-to-be-launched 2016 Audi Q5 is expected to take its styling cues from Q7, the company’s flagship Sports Utility Vehicle.
As the new vehicle (built on the company’s new MLB Evo platform) is rendered by RM Car Design, car experts opine that the physical features from Audi Q7 including the sharp lines and edges and the hexagonal grille will be inherited by it.
The new Audi Q5 is expected to be about 100 kg less in weight as compared to the outgoing model, owing to the latest version of Audi’s MLB Evo platform (presently available on the A4) which employs high-strength steel and aluminum. This new platform not only reduces the overall kerb weight, but is also expected to make the underpinnings more rigid and robust as compared to the older model.
The 2016 Audi Q5 would be similar in size to the previous model and is expected to measure 4700mm in length, 1950mm in width and 1650mm in height.
The front fascia will feature Matrix LED headlamps and large air intakes while the rear is expected to come with redesigned LED taillights, new exhaust ends and a revamped bumper. The dual 5-spoke wheels are designed to give the new Q5 a sporty profile.
The new Q5 will also come with Audi’s latest technologies such as an MMI system featuring an 8.3-inch display and compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto, Audi Virtual Cockpit, Stop&Go adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist and Audi pre sense city. The interiors of the new Q5 are designed for a sober, clean yet attractive look.
The 2016 Audi Q5 is expected to be powered by the same set of engines and transmissions that power the new Audi A4. The options include 6- and 4-cylinder diesel and petrol units combined with the latest 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch or 6-speed manual transmission. Customers would have the option of pairing this system with the Quattro AWD system.
The Audi Q5 RS model, which is expected to join the lineup later, promises to deliver a peak power of 450 HP, similar to the power output of the Porsche Macan Turbo and Mercedes GLC63 AMG.
