Lotus has launched the 2016 Elise Cup 250 and has made a claim that it is the fastest car from the brand ever to hit the roads yet. The model is made to replace the existing Cup 220 and is said to be much more powerful in performance yet lightweight at the same time.
The designers of the vehicle have managed to shave off some weight by using carbon fiber components and reducing the weight of secondary spares. The new Cup is confirmed to be 21 kilograms less in weight when compared to the outgoing model which makes a lot of difference in its overall performance.
2016 Lotus Elise Cup 250 is powered by a 1.8-liter engine which delivers 7200 rpm and has 250 Nm of torque. The torque remains the same but with increased battery power, it is capable of achieving higher top speeds in a short period. The weight loss has been managed by a brand new lithium ion battery that contributes to the major change. There’s also lightweight seats made of carbon fiber materials, forged alloy wheels and if the buyer opts to go for carbon aero pack, another 10 kilograms can be shaved off.
The Cup 250 is powered by a six-speed manual transmission system and it can easily kickstart from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a short span of 4.3 seconds. In comparison, the earlier model requires 4.6 seconds to achieve the same speed. The car has a top speed of over 150 mph.
A wide range of branded accessories has been used on the 2016 Lotus Elise Cup 250. The list includes Yokohama tires, Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, AP racing calipers and Brembo brakes among others. Everything has been handpicked from the best suppliers in the world which should obviously push the overall price of the vehicle on the higher side.
But, Lotus has always been a brand associated with the fraternity that love cars made by them irrespective of the price tag. The mainstream audience and people around the globe were not those that Elise sells to. Instead, it continues to thrive among those who like the brand for what it is.
Besides, there will be just 200 models of the Elise Cup 250 to be manufactured making it an exclusive piece of automobile to own. The car will be available to customers living in UK and Europe by April 2016.
