The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL63 is planned for a release sometime next year. Before we get to the official launch, we can enjoy the first spy photos of the luxurious cabriolet.
The AMG SL63 features some of the main styling elements of the regular SL. Even though the car is heavily camouflaged, some styling elements are clear and visible.
For starters, the 2016 AMG SL63 will adopt a large front grille as well as large side air intakes, both of which are inspired by the GT sports car.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL63 is the pinnacle of the two-seater lineup by the Bavarian company and it follows the footsteps of the most famous sports car by Mercedes, the SL300. The SL300 was released in the 1950s, but Mercedes still draws inspiration from it. Back then, the sports car was initially built as a coupe, but then as a roadster as well. Trying to blend those two categories together, Mercedes came up with the SL cabriolet, now in the sixth generation.
Competing against top manufacturers such as Maserati and Bentley, Mercedes must deliver excellent value and performances and the AMG SL63 does exactly that.
The SL63 is expected with a 5.5-liter V8 engine, a turbocharged engine that Mercedes first introduced in 2012. At the top of the class sits an engine with 577 ponies inside that can sprint to 60mph in just 4.2 seconds. The high speed cap is set at 155mph. With an added Driver’s package, the 2016 SL63 AMG version can get the high speed up to 186mph. Some sources report that Mercedes might try a different approach, placing the 4.0-liter V8 engine in the SL63. The company uses the same engine for the GT Sports car. However, the 5.5-liter engine is the more plausible option, given that the AMG SL63 is the range topping car.
For the 2016 AMG SL63, Mercedes will employ a multi-clutch transmission. The goal is to produce a transmission clutch that sits somewhere in the middle between manual and automatic transmission, getting the best features out of both.
Inside, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL63 looks like a luxurious and premium sports car. Enhanced with sport seats, special wheel, illuminated sills and mats, the SL63 provides the driver with a premium driving experience. To top it off, Mercedes adds a classy touch via IWC analog clock.
What is impressive is that Mercedes has provided more storage space than the average convertible. There is space behind the seat of the passenger, a glove box, a central cubby and small door pockets.
