Cadillac will launch the new XT5 as a 2017 model and will continue to use the SRX as a 2016 model. With that being said, what are the changes that fans can expect from the 2017 Cadillac XT5?
At first glance, the new SUV has the same size and proportions, but the changes to the design are quite radical.
The front grille is definitely changed, with new, sleeker and more stylish looking headlights. The design of the hood is also changed, with Cadillac adding a few dynamic and sharp lines to counter the previously looking flat design. The result is a more aggressive and sporty look of the new 2017 Cadillac XT. The side lines are also changed. The new line, going from the front wheels to the rear seats is now more straight than curved.
The design is evolutionary for Cadillac and results in a fine looking crossover. The knock is that the side profile could have been more creative, but Cadillac decided to opt for simplicity. Other designers, on the contrary, experiment with the side profile with creases, unusual volume and shaped curves and pronounced dips. You do not see those elements on the 2017 Cadillac XT5.
Inside, we do not know the changes that Cadillac will make into the 2017 XT5.
Powertrains are also vague at the moment, with Cadillac announcing that the 2017 XT5 will feature several four cylinder diesel turbocharged engines, as well as a naturally-aspirated engine. A turbocharged V6 engine is also in the works, but we do not know the power or volume of the engines. What we do know, however, is that the 2017 XT5 will use new nine-speed automatic transmission that Cadillac is developing in partnership with Ford.
The new SUV will be available with both front and all-wheel drive system, with the all-wheel-drive system being able to divert most, if not all torque to both the front and rear wheels.
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 will use the new platform that GM is developing, called the C1XX at the moment. The new platform is specially designed for midsize and full-size SUVs. The purpose is to reduce the weight, but increase the space inside and in the truck. The new platform should also be flexible, being able to adjust to different requirements by the driver. The new platform of the 2017 XT5 will offer both regular and long wheelbase configurations and support two and three row seating.
