2017 Cadillac XT5 – Spy Photos Catch the Crossover Testing in US

For quite some time, Cadillac stayed away from the SUV market. The company is finally trying to get into the market, with plenty of new crossover models planned for the next few years.

The one, the prospective buyers are anticipating the most is the 2017 Cadillac XT5, a model that should replace the SRX. The XT5 is the first CUV that the company has planned.

After few months of speculations, fans will finally get a first glance at the 2017 Cadillac XT5 thanks to some spy photos. While the vehicle was heavily camouflaged during the tests on US roads, we still have a grasp of what to expect.

The 2017 XT5 was shown previously in a photoshoot in Manhattan, completely undisguised. Comparing the two sets of photos shows that the same vehicle is in question. Some details that are visible on the camouflaged photos are the sharp mirrors that the company has placed on the door, the low profile roof bars, the window line, as well as the shark fin antenna.

The XT will be the first SUV that will come under the new nomenclature, with the crossover section starting with the name XT. General Motors have made an effort to allow the new SUV to start under a clean sheet. The XT5 will ride the new architecture by GM, dubbed as “C1XX” which allows the car to run on both front wheel and all-wheel drive systems.

The entry model, according to rumors, will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. However, the more popular choice might be the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which will probably be the top range option. And if Cadillac is serious about entering the plug-in hybrid market as well, a hybrid unit is not far-fetched. As a standard transmission, the company will place a nine speed automatic transmission inside the 2017 XT5.

As for technology goodies, reports are that SuperCruise will make its way to the XT5. SuperCruise is Cadillac’s next generation autonomous driving system. The semi-autonomous system has warnings for lane watching, emergency braking and an adaptive cruise control system. Delphi is the one responsible for the production of the technology and according to rumors, the SuperCruise might be hands-free driving system for the highway.
