General motors had announced the new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Electric Vehicle which will set a new benchmark in the segment by offering 238 miles on a single charge.
Ever since the brand announced the concept Bolt, GM proudly declared that they are aiming to achieve 200 miles with an electric motor. The car with its powerful battery will not only offer great coverage but will also be quite inexpensive, an attempt to compete directly with the Tesla’s Model 3 car. Tesla is about to launch their car in the year 2018 and has already started taking pre-orders for the vehicle. Chevrolet, Nissan are some of the potential competitors who have EVs of their own with great mileage.
The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is powered by a 60 kWh lithium ion battery. The electric motor is mounted in the front which can render up to 200 horsepower coupled with 266 lb feet of torque. According to the numbers revealed by GM, the Bolt should be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7 seconds. The petrol cars can usually go much faster but for an electric vehicle, the acceleration is quite promising.
The battery mounted in the car can be charged on the go and it will take about 9 hours if hooked to a level 2 power source. Users can also connect it to a DC charger which will charge the battery from zero to eighty percent of its capacity in just 60 minutes. The time is usually more than sufficient to charge the car while travelling long distances, whenever you take a break.General Motors has confirmed that the new Bolt will arrive in showrooms before the end of this year.
With quite an impressive mile range, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is expected to beat the Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus Electric and Volkswagen e-Golf. All top manufacturers are working hard to create large batteries of their own to combine them with electric motors for performance. Tesla is slightly ahead of competition at the moment in terms of pricing and features.
GM confirmed that the new Bolt EV will be priced approximately at $37,500. Model 3 from Tesla is priced at $35,000 and it promises up to 215 miles of range. We are yet to witness the one model that is about to rule the electric segment in the next two years. It could be the Bolt or some other car that is not announced yet.
