The anticipation for the sixth generation of the Camaro is higher than ever. To add some flair to the rumor, we have the latest spy photos of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
The photos show that the high performance car will have a lot more aggressive body and better aerodynamics than the previous versions.
The big giveaway that the car in the pictures is actually the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the heat extractor on the hood. The extractor should help cool down the enormous 6.2 liter engine under the hood. At the moment, it is unknown how much power the 6.2 liter V8 engine will produce, but you can expect something close to the 650hp that the Chevrolet Corvette produces. Another comparison is the current ZL1, which produces more than 580hp from the same 6.2 liter V8 engine. It is hard to imagine the Camaro catching the Corvette, but something in the range of 600 to 620hp is plausible.
The performance of the 2017 ZL1 might be even more impressive, considering the platform that the car uses. The 2017 Camaro shares the same platform as the Cadillac ATS, the Alpha platform. The end result is a weight loss that is significant compared with the previous version of the Chevrolet Camaro.
Even though the Camaro ZL1 is camouflaged nicely in the spy photos, it is clear that the sixth generation will bring a different body kit. For starters, the sports car has a slightly lower front fascia, visible rear spoiler, much larger tires and wheels and hood scoop. The wheels and tires hint at a sharper classic tune that will be positioned under the skin. And to make the car meaner and louder, the company has placed larger quad tailpipes on the back. This will make the Camaro ZL1 a lot louder than the Camaro SS, the previous gold standard for a mean and loud car.
Other additions to the body kit of the car include the new rocker panels, the front splitter and the rear spoiler. All of them result in a more aggressive body of the ZL1. The rocker panels, unlike previous versions, are wider.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is scheduled for a market release later this year. However, a January launch during the Detroit Motor Show is not out of the question as well. Next year, by Spring, customers can also expect the convertible version of the Camaro ZL1. With that being said, stay tuned for more information about the musclecar and enjoy the spy photos.
