2017 Ford F-150 Introduces New 3.5 Liter EcoBoost Engine

The newest car, the 2017 Ford F-150 is ready to hit showrooms and with it the model brings an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with tweaked performance.

The engine is considered to be more powerful than its predecessors which is coupled with a ten speed automatic transmission system.

Launching the new engine, Ford in their statement commented that with the eco boost technology, the newer version of the V6 is capable of providing an increased level of torque. The cars receive 450 lb feet of torque which is at least 30 lbs higher than the outgoing model. However, the horsepower generated by the same remains unchanged at 365hp. With the tweaks done by the engineers, the V6 is now more powerful than the V6 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel because the latter in the series delivers a meagre 240 horsepower with 420 lb feet of torque. The earlier model is low on torque and is hardly performance oriented with such horsepower.

They have also listed the things that are changed in the 3.5-liter Eco Boost engine. It includes a dual injection system with highly responsive turbos. The turbine wheels are made lighter so that they could complete multiple oscillations with minimal energy and the waste gates are electronically activated for increased precision. The engineers have made the camshafts lighter besides a couple of other changes.

All the older models of the engine used six speed automatic gearboxes which is now replaced with a ten speed automatic transmission. Designers of the model are highly confident that the increase in the number of gears will lead to better performance, reliability and fuel efficiency. The EPA is yet to rate the car for its efficiency but it will mostly receive a rating higher than the outgoing model.

Ford has signed an agreement with General motors in order to develop the new gearbox and it will be implemented in all their future models. The company plans to produce the vehicles in the newly constructed Michigan plant. The 2017 Ford F-150 should start rolling out before the end of this year. Apart from building engines for the traditional gasoline and diesel powered cars, Ford is also working on autonomous technology and electrified vehicles. The next generation cars are expected to be rolled out in the next two years and perfected in the following years.

The main objective for Ford engineers is to provide maximum mileage without compromising on performance.
