The 2018 BMW 3 series is under construction and it is going to feature brand new technology, new design besides amazing powertrain capabilities for best performance.
A spy photographer managed to capture shots of the car for the first time ever.
The German automobile manufacturer has a long history of keeping their cars camouflaged for months before it can be spotted on the roads testing. They usually manage to keep the hype low until the big announcement. The 2018 BMW 3 series is one such model which we have very little knowledge about. The spy photos are pretty clear but the car is totally camouflaged making it extremely difficult to make out its design.
While it is known that there could be some subtle changes, it is not possible to see the actual exterior design of the BMW 3 series. Throughout the years, the brand has always opted for minor changes and they are not going to make any drastic modifications at this point. It is safe to assume that the new 2018 BMW 3 series will be similar to the earlier models in terms of design and performance. Despite the camouflage, the car’s soft curves and lines can be spotted.
The double kidney front grille adorns the front fascia and the new headlamp design is curvy which is a stark change when compared to existing models. While there is no official word on the powertrain used by the car, BMW is competing against Audi which may push them to opt for a powertrain that is on par with latest Audi models. The bigger wheelbase should lead to better interior space, giving passengers increased headroom and boot space for cargo storage.
The 2018 BMW 3 series is being built on a brand new aluminum chassis, an extremely lightweight platform designed by the automobile manufacturer. The BMW engineers have already used it for the X3 SUV and are planning to implement it in all newer models. It should lead to significant weight loss, at least 80 kilograms which obviously boosts fuel efficiency and overall performance of the model. It also modifies its aerodynamic capabilities leading to a comfortable ride.
Multiple engine options are in the cards. BMW is yet to confirm the ones they are going to opt for. Being a buyer friendly brand, they should deliver three-cylinder, four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrain options so that there is one model geared towards every buyer and budget category.
