While GM is known for adding new appearance packages to make their Sierra pickup truck stand out of competition, this time they have gone a step ahead with the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 model. It is not just cosmetic changes but there are plenty of add-ons to make it perform better besides adopting the hybrid technology.
The next gen model is equipped with the eAssist technology. The truck runs on a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine. The designers added that the new model will be 13 percent fuel efficient when compared to the older version.
Talking about the launch, GMC’s VP said, “Everything that we indulge in at the GMC is about incorporating innovative technology as a result of which buyers get the best automobile experience. The eAssist takes pushes new boundaries and has set a benchmark in performance as well as fuel efficiency.”
Vice President of sales and marketing, Duncan Aldred added that their aim is to deliver a compromise free package which translates into real-world fuel savings. The team explained more about the technology adding that the engine uses a induction motor which helps reduce fuel consumption to great levels. There’s also a liquid cooler powered inverter and a 0.45 kWh lithium ion battery pack.
GM confirmed the weight of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 has increased just 100 pounds despite the improvements in performance and fuel economy. Additional features which are part of the eAssist system includes automatic engine start/stop in traffic, electric power boost, regenerative braking system and aerodynamic improvements.
Buyers can choose to upgrade the pickup truck with the SLT premium plus package. The package offers a big 8-inch touchscreen display, navigation system, Bose audio equipment, support for Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and wireless phone charging. A wide range of safety features is also part of the package including lane switch assist, parking assist, collision warning on front and rear, along with a rear view camera.
Additional comfort is lent by heated steering wheel and leather seats. They are properly vented to offer maximum comfort for the riders of the truck. For starts, GM has decided to produce 200 models of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. All of them will be equipped with the new eAssist technology. More units will be produced if the company finds enough demand for the revamped model.
The truck will be available in the North American region as it is where GM has a strong customer base for their pickup models.
