The design of the Audi Q5 2016 edition is underway as the vehicle is scheduled for launch towards the end of this year.
They are probably making some last minute changes and it should go into production real soon.
The Q5 SUV is specifically designed for the upmarket where most buyers demand the best luxury features and a sporty finish rather than the bulky design usually associated with the commuters’ models. It was earlier spied and the prototype confirmed that Audi is not going to make any drastic changes to the design but rather make minor tweaks so as to make it appealing to a wide range of audience.
Its chunky look inspired by the outgoing model is retained so as to offer better headroom for the passengers but the angles which made the Q2 unpopular has been modified. The front grille is hexagonal in shape while the headlamps are made slimmer. The model features triple slat air intakes coupled with large alloy wheels.
For the first time, the Audi Q5 2016 edition is getting upgraded to the proprietary MLB platform used in all newer Volkswagen cars. With this change, the SUV gets upgraded to a brand new chassis, engines and other features making it as contemporary as the model can get. While changing the platform, the designers have also managed to make the vehicle lightweight at least by 100 kilograms. It may not sound massive but it plays a role in promoting aerodynamics and better performance according to the R&D engineers.
Audi has also planned to introduce a front wheel driving system with the Q5 for the first time and the popular all-wheel Quattro system model will be sold as well. With the help of the new system, better efficiency is promised as the car will automatically disable the rear wheel when it is not necessary saving fuel while the making the drive more comfortable.
There is no official word on the powertrain variants used in the Audi Q5 but it is expected that the model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline model capable of delivering 187 horsepower and the four-wheel drive model probably be powered by 2.0-liter powertrain which delivers 248 horsepower.
Apart from the base models, a much powerful variant of SUV with a 3.0-liter V6 engine capable of rendering 268 horsepower but it will use only a four-wheel drive system. The anticipated pricing for the 4-wheel drive model in the UK is £33,000.
