Audi has released some of the first images of the upcoming 2017 Audi A5 on the official Twitter account.

The German company has repeatedly been caught testing the next generation Audi A5 in heavily camouflaged circumstances over the last few months. Even this time around, Audi has come up with only a teaser of the upcoming Audi A5 since those pictures contain the same camouflage seen in the road test vehicles. It may be extremely difficult to make out the exact design of the vehicle, but it suggests that the Audi A5 will not be a deviation from the current design language.

The German brand has significantly altered the design language of its vehicles in the last few months. Vehicles like the Audi Q7 and the Audi A4 have come out with much sharper looking vehicles than ever before. One can expect that trend to continue on the Audi A5, which is largely based on the Audi A4.

The second generation of the Audi A5 is expected to make its debut on June 2 in Germany. The new MLB Evo platform will be used to bring this vehicle to life. This platform is primarily about saving weight while retaining all the good attributes of the predecessor. Audi is expected to save up to 100 KG on the new Audi A5 largely by the use of aluminum and high-strength steel. This significant saving is straightaway expected to help the vehicle post some impressive numbers with regard to performance and fuel efficiency.

Based on the camouflaged of pictures of the Audi A5, it seems that the new generation vehicle will be slightly wider than before. It is also expected to come with the trademark matrix LED headlights, which have been a trademark of the higher end Audi cars in recent years. Rumors claim that the Audi A5 will be significantly better in terms of aerodynamics. The vehicle could be offered in four different engine options – petrol and diesel variants with four or six cylinders.

The top of the line models could come with the famed four-wheel-drive system – also known as Quattro – of Audi. Another significant feature which is expected to make its debut on the A5 range will be the virtual cockpit, which has been extremely well received in the Audi A4 and the Audi Q7. The new coupe will also come with a range of safety tech as standard.
