Hennessey Venom GT Spyder Becomes Faster Convertible in the World

The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder has won the title as world’s fastest convertible and has managed to beat the long running champion, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse.

Bugatti recently launched the Chiron as a successor to the Veyron but the earlier model is the most adopted one around the globe and has already won many of the titles including the fastest on the road. The record is broken now by the Hennessey model which has reached a breathtaking top speed of 265.6 miles per hour. For safety reasons, the testing was handled in the Naval Air Station located in Lemoore. The runway stretched at 2.9 miles and the speed test was monitored by Brian Smith along with the firm Race Logic.

In the year 2013, the Veyron Super Sport Vitesse lost to the Hennessey model which did a record breaking run and touched a top speed of 254 miles per hour. It was an impressive feat during the period and once again the Hennessey Venom GT set a new record by hitting 270.49 miles per hour. The particular speed testing event was held in the year 2014 at the Kennedy Space Center.

On the powertrain segment, the Venom GT is powered by a 7.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine delivering a whopping 1,451 horsepower coupled with 1,287 lb feet of torque. The vehicle can easily accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour within 2.4 seconds. The records are purely dedicated to tracks designed for the same and it may not be wise to try recreate them in public roads where traffic congestion is much higher.

The company’s engineers are delighted at the moment because this year also marks the 25th anniversary since the performance variants started rolling out from the Hennessey brand. In order to commemorate the occasion, the brand is all set to launch three exclusive editions. Titled as the World Record Edition, the Venom GT Spyder model is priced at $1.3 million. The edition is obviously exclusive and will be produced in limited numbers.

The speed record is set against the Veyron and Bugatti is yet to launch their newly designed Chiron. The car is extremely fast and delivers breathtaking performance on road, according to the engineers. It is going to be a short wait before it starts leaving its mark in the race track. By the time, Hennessey Venom GT Spyder and any other future model from the brand will have tough competition before they could prove their mettle to the public.
