Justin Bieber spoke obliquely about finding new love and was open about his earlier on-off relationship with Selena Gomez.
In a no-holds-barred interview with Complex magazine as part of its cover story, Justin Bieber, the 21-year-old singing sensation said that he and SelGo were so much in love that nothing else mattered then. He later realized that if one finds value from another person, then disappointment is bound to find a place in one’s heart.
‘Your girl or your dude, they’re always going to disappoint you. Your full identity can’t be in that person. My identity was in her and her identity was in me’, he said.
Justin Bieber’s latest number, ‘What Do You Mean?’, focuses on this frustrating and confusing relationship with Selena Gomez and when asked what he learnt from it, he said that he learnt a lot from the relationship. It was like a marriage. He moved in with her when he was 18 and now he believes that living with a girl at that age can get too much.
He added that there was so much emotional investment between them that when things went wrong, either he or she or sometimes both, would lose their minds and indulge in huge fights. He added, ‘Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling. People have made it seem in movies that it’s this fairy tale’.
Although his relationship with the ‘Come & Get it’ singer still affects him, Bieber spoke rather obliquely about a new love/romance that he may have found. He said that he was seeing this girl and yet he was reluctant to talk much about it. He said he was being shy about it and since he is already badly scarred from his previous relation, he’d rather not talk about it yet.
In the interview with Complex, Bieber also opened up about other scandals in his life, including the ‘pissing in the bucket’ incident, his ‘drag racing’ story in Miami and about religion. He brushed off the pissing incident saying that too much was written about something which did not call for so much attention and he didn’t deserve to be called ‘bratty’ for that incident.
About the drag racing under influence incident, Bieber blamed his celebrity status for the same. He said that the particular cop who arrested him wanted attention and become famous for arresting celebrities. He claimed that he was not drinking and that the reading on the meter just went up a little and it could be because he had a beer earlier in the day.
While he was asking the officer to explain what was happening, the cop reportedly told him to put his hands on the hood. When he continued asking for an explanation, the angry cop now told him that he is being arrested for ‘resisting arrest’. So he just agreed to be jailed and now he recalls that those 24 hours was a very bad experience.
About his take on religion, Bieber said that he joined Gomez to visit a mutual friend and celebrity pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr and was quite open about his religious beliefs. He doesn’t believe that just going to church makes one a good Christian. He thinks that going to church is creating a relationship and a connection which helps you feel more secure.
Gomez, for her part, had said in the October cover story of Elle that she will always love and support the ‘Never Say Never’ singer. She also supported his comeback concert and told the New York Times that people called her stupid for falling for Bieber but the person in the comeback performance is what she always saw in him.
