The Lamborghini Miura with its exotic looks and performance has wooed car lovers for a very long time, 50 years to be precise. The brand is celebrating the event by launching a special edition variant of the Lamborghini Aventador.
The year 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the Miura. It is the first ever mid-engine car built in the world. Lamborghini is definitely proud of what they have accomplished almost five decades ago and in order to mark the occasion, they have picked one of the popular variants from the present. The Aventador special edition looks very much like the Miura in terms of color, design and also carries special badges on the interior to showcase its exclusivity.
In the past, the Miura was a game changing launch from the automobile manufacturer. It was launched in the year 1966 right after Ferrari launched its 250 LM in 1965. The Miura went public and it was the first ever model to feature a mid-engine. Almost every other manufacturer of the times including Ferrari had to suddenly catch up with this new trend. They started making models of their own that copied the Lamborghini offering yet tried to be distinct. It started making waves in auto shows in the same year and was available for purchase up until 1973 after which it was discontinued.
Lamborghini tried to recreate the nostalgic feel by making a consumer version of Miura in 2006. It was supposed to be the 40th anniversary special edition but somehow never made it to the dealership stores. The car was shelved and the model created was simply put in their hall of fame. After a decade, instead of trying to remake the car, the team went for Aventador which is a wise choice from a business perspective.
The Lamborghini Aventador Miura Hommage version adorns the paint colors used by the original car. The wheels are specially color coded while a stylish Miura badge is placed on the lower right hand side of each panel. Buyers can opt to go for a dual tone color package for the interiors of the car with the Miura badge on the headrest.
The special edition model is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine which is capable of producing an amazing 691 horsepower. The car has a great acceleration capacity which allows it to go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 217 mph. Lamborghini is keeping the model extremely limited as only 50 of these cars will be sold.
