Mazda MX-5 with Hard Heading to NY Expo, Invitations are Out

Mazda has started sending out press invites to the media to witness the grand launch of their MX-5 at the New York auto expo. With just a month to go, the show has started gaining traction and auto manufacturers are announcing one model after the another.

Many of them will be launched at the show while some variants could be showcased much earlier.

The invitation is on a black matte card with the title, Mazda World Premiere and on the inside under red wraps another note reads, ‘Help us blow the lid off at the New York Auto Show’. The soft top version of the MX-5 is already out for over a year by now. If they are going to launch something new, it should be none other than the folding hard top version of the model. It was promised to be delivered a long time back but for untold reasons, the company has delayed the launch. We hope they bring it out as anticipated at the auto show.

Mazda’s MX-5 roadster coupe is expected to be priced around £20,000. The pricing of the coupe variant will be slightly higher than the roadster but unless the company officially announces the pricing, it is not something one could comment on. It is aimed to get launched in the US and UK first before making its way to other markets.

While Mazda is going to change the car to feature a hard top, it will be the only change in the model. The powertrain and the features available in the vehicle will remain the same. It makes it easier for the brand to keep pricing at affordable range so as to satisfy their target audience.

The car will be powered by a 1.5-liter engine in its base model. Buyers who want more horsepower out of their hard top MX-5 roadster coupe can go for the 2.0-liter powertrain variant. However, it will be limited to buyers in the United States and there is no word on making it available in other countries. It will also feature a limited slip differential.

The New York auto show is getting packed with newer launches and more announcements. We will be heading to the event to bring all the latest updates and see the cars in person. It is expected that Mazda will announce the pricing and launch dates for the MX-5 hard top model on the show floor. It should be available for purchase this summer or most probably before the end of the year based on their distribution schedule.
