Mercedes is a brand associated with world class luxury and comfort in their cars. The Benz signifies unparalleled comfort and the S-Class is undoubtedly the benchmark for luxury class sedans.
While in theory, it is tough to break the barrier and offer the same kind of luxury, Mercedes has surpassed expectations and managed to recreate the elegance with the 2017 S-Class Cabriolet. Majority of the consumers and critics were expecting Mercedes to come up with a new model that adds more features to the already successful S-Class. However, they have managed to accomplish it with a drop top convertible version of the car.
Interestingly, the luxury car manufacturer has refrained from making open top four seater vehicles for almost five decades now. The last car is the 280 SE Cabriolet which was launched in 1971 and is now owned only by avid car enthusiasts who just can’t let go of the model yet. For the contemporary buyer, the new Cabriolet is an epitome of luxury which boasts of high quality Nappa leather seats, the airmatic air suspension system and an engaging Burmester sound system.
The vehicle is integrated with an emergency braking system, touch friendly infotainment system and an Air Balance package which is bundled with a fragrance for pleasant interiors. The features listed here can be found in the basic variant of the Mercedes 2017 S-Class Cabriolet convertible. For customers who need more luxurious add-ons, the manufacturer offers a couple of semi-autonomous drive assist features, a massage system, 3D sound system and more. When you add each one of these additional features, it is obviously going to cost extra.
Above all, the significant feature found in the new cabriolet is the acoustic soft top powered by a three layered tensioning arm to support noise free movement. When activated, the top can open and completely cover the vehicle in 20 seconds. A closed version of the convertible may look a lot like the S-class because the basic design has been borrowed from one of the most popular sellers in the Mercedes family.
The S550 variant of the vehicle will be powered by a 4.7 liter V8 twin turbocharged engine which is capable of delivering a massive 449 horsepower coupled with 516 pound feet of torque. The high end AMG model which will also hit the market is expected to be powered by a 5.5 liter engine that delivers 577 horsepower and 664 lb ft of torque. The latter variant can touch 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds. The car variants are set for a grand reveal at the Frankfurt show schedule to take place on September 17th and will be available for purchase in 2016.
