Mercedes has confirmed all the details related to the newly launched C-Class Cabriolet at the Geneva show. The hard roof top is considered quite complicated and the brand has totally avoided it.
Instead they have opted for the fabric based soft top which easily folds when one likes to enjoy a breezy ride.
C-Class is easily one of the largest lineups in recent times from Mercedes. It already has a coupe, saloon and estate models. The Cabriolet is the latest to join the lot and according to the company’s announcement, it will be priced 37,000 in UK pounds and will be priced in the same conversion range in U.S. besides other regions.
The design quotient of the Mercedes Benz C-class Cabriolet is nearly an exact replica of the S-Class Cabriolet. The car has a high shoulder line, curved boot, similar grille and even the tail lamp design has been retained from the original. Buyers can choose from two different roof versions. The base model is considered to be a cheaper option while the other is a sound proof roof. Colors available include blue, brown, red and black.
The time the roof takes to unfold or fold is something that has been consistently criticized about cabriolet models. Mercedes confirmed that the new C-Class can get it done under 20 seconds which is ok. The boot space of the vehicle will vary, as it can hold up to 360 liters of cargo when the top is closed and 285 liters when it is folded.
A total of eight different models will hit dealership stores, including two diesel variants. All of them uses the same nine-speed automatic gearbox system. The 4Matic four-wheel drive system is found only in select variants, though. A 2.1-liter diesel engine powers the car with two varying outputs, 168 hp and 201 hp.
The base model has a 1.6-liter C 180 petrol engine delivering up to 154 horsepower. It can reach from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 8.9 seconds. The higher end features a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 181 hp and 208 hp. The top end offers 242 hp and there’s the C 400 powered model with a 3.0-liter V6 engine rendering a cool 328 horsepower with 480 Nm of torque. The variant can touch 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Airscarf system is integrated in the cabriolet to keep the riders’ neck cool and leather seats reflect heat to keep them all warm despite outside temperature.
