New Spy Shots of the 2016 BMW X1 7-Seater Reveal More about its Design

It’s always fun to capture spy shots of hot and upcoming vehicles. The 2016 BMW X1 with an additional seating row is yet to be revealed, but car enthusiasts couldn’t stop themselves from capturing pictures of the compact SUV when it was spotted on the road.

The manufacturer has officially showcased the X1 compact crossover which is an amazing new addition to the X1 line-up. The new trend is all about mixing conventional sedan front to that of compact SUV exterior, which gives buyers the space they need yet allows them to drive the vehicle with ease. The crossover is an ideal example which could accommodate five people at once.

However, when the company decides to go for a seven-seater prototype of the same X1 crossover variant, they obviously have to make a couple of changes to the design. The spy shots that got recently leaked confirms that the roof of the upcoming seven seat model is much flatter and is lengthier in design when compared to the X1 five seat model. It was probably done to provide more leg room for the passengers as well as increase the length of the vehicle to accommodate the additional seats.

An obvious stretch is visible in the wheelbase to accommodate the modified design, which also houses one of a kind side glass. For best legroom, the seven seats inside the compact SUV crossover have been split into three rows. Apart from these important changes to allow the BMW X1 to facilitate more passengers, everything else remains the same.

The front remains largely unchanged, including the wheel base and the front wheel drive system. For buyers who may wish to get that extra torque, BMW offers a way to convert it into an all- wheel drive.

The BMW X1 5-seater crossover SUV is powered by an sDrive20i which delivers a horsepower of 228 and has 258 pound feet of torque. The vehicle uses an eight speed automatic transmission system and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 in just 6.3 seconds, which is an acceptable ratio for such a heavy vehicle.

The unconfirmed 2016 BMW X1 7-seater vehicle is expected to have similar engine specifications and performance. However, if BMW chooses to go for the same engine without tweaking its power, it might have an adverse effect on the torque and top speed.

The compact crossover SUV is expected to be announced at the Frankfurt auto expo.
