The flagship coupe about to replace the existing Ferrari F12 is not going to make any drastic changes.
The car will retain the naturally aspirated version of the V12 engine instead of experimenting with hybrid or turbo powertrains.
The F12 Berlinetta is to be replaced in the near future and when it does, the 6.3-liter V12 engine will be used one more time. The news was revealed by a company representative to an Australian automobile magazine. Being the flagship model, it will use the best of the powertrain available. However, the same will not be used for the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Ferrari California T.
These two cars are to be powered by a downgraded 3.9-liter V8 engine connected to dual turbochargers for maximum power output. Most auto brands try to push the total power output of their flagship models by usingforced induction or hybrid systems. Ferrari is not going to use any of the gimmick. Instead they are going to use the naturally aspirated version of the engine which should readily deliver up to 800 horsepower.
With the revised version, the same engine that used to deliver 731 horsepower with the F12 Berlinetta and about 770 horsepower in the F12tdf will provide more horsepower than ever. The seven-speed transaxle design mounted in the rear will be retained in the next generation F12 successor.
Engineers have put in their time to innovate the engine in all possible ways. One of the significant achievement is that they have managed to reduce the overall size and weight of the V-12 engine. The modified dimensions reduce the space occupied by the engine in the new car. Coupled with brand new tires, active aero system and suspension technology for increased comfort, the next flagship is bound to break records and set a new benchmark for other hyper car manufacturers.
A hybrid power boost is rumored to be used in the new flagship car. The 48-volt electric motor could add a mild hybrid touch to the car. Based on the rumored numbers, the unnamed flagship model easily beat the halo super car in a race track. The next gen Ferrari F12 car will be available in stores by 2019. We can expect the company to officially reveal the concept during one of the auto shows held next year. Companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini have started experimenting with mild hybrids which is the first step towards electrification.
