For Ford Focus ST owners, the thought of the 345hp Focus RS that should be released soon is a scary one. Luckily, thanks to the developers at Mountune, the ST owners can vastly improve the performance of their sporty car, giving them a nice compromise.
The upgrade kit by the Blue Oval experts brings the output of the Ford Focus ST to 275hp, which is a lot, considering the sporty car was already extremely fast for its segment. The upgrade kit includes mountune induction kit, all installation hardware, mountune mTune handsets and mountune high-flow intercooler. Additionally, a mountune air filter can be added to the high-flow air filter in order to achieve better control of the sound and air filter protection in difficult and extreme weather conditions.
The Focus ST is already a high-octane version of the regular Ford Focus, but it is not as fast and as good as the upcoming RS version of the Ford Focus. However, the upgrade kit is a nice compromise. All owners of Focus ST from 2013 to 2015 can get the upgrade kit.
The kit is available with the ECU programmer, but also without. The color options for the components include black and silver. The base upgrade kits start at $1359, which is without the ECU programmer computer. However, even the base upgrade kit comes with a high-flow intercooler.
For those who want the ECU programmer, Ford has raised the price by an additional $790, but they also get the silver-finishing. There are two almost identical kits, one designed for the new and refreshed 2015 Ford Focus and one for the older versions, the 2013 and the 2014.
Just for comparison, to see what the new upgrade kit can do, consider this: the existing 2015 Ford Focus ST provides 252hp and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The new version that will cost between $1359 and $2419 is expected to sprint to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can even add the $999 Ford Performance Charges.
Adding extra ponies is not everything that the new upgrade kit from Mountune does. The upgrade kits also help with the throttle response and keep the emission at respectable levels. If you install the parts at an authorized technician, you keep the warranty of the Ford Focus ST.
