The next gen Peugeot is getting upgraded to a i-Cockpit infotainment system which is spotted in a set of leaked pictures. The brand is aiming to change the center console to make it more responsive and add some exciting new features to it.
With very little innovation possible in the powertrain and other aspects of a car, majority of automobile manufacturers are trying to innovate in design and the infotainment system. Companies like Tesla has already pushed the boundaries by introducing autonomous technologies while smaller brands are focusing on making it more user friendly than futuristic. The arrangement of the switches and the screen is different in the new cockpit Peugeot is aiming to achieve.
The leaked images were spotted in the wild and shared over a Chinese press. The car now features a new dashtop screen and the display is much bigger than it used to be. It has replaced the instrument cluster which used to be the primary component in any user console from the past. The instrument cluster screens are designed to cover the full width area and uses tablet like standing displays for those who prefer such.
Major brands like Audi, Mercedes Benz and Ford have their own version of the infotainment system. While i-Cockpit from Peugeot is different when compared to their competitors, it still is unique in its own way and tries to offer things that is innovative when compared to other automobile manufacturers.
Most controls used by passengers is incorporated into the touchscreen console. Peugeot aims to be truly unique by offering something new and it will be incorporated in all their models including the 208, 308 and 2008. In the spy shots, it is evident that a bunch of switches are there beneath the display for the exclusive people who still love analog switches.
Its functionality is not known at the moment but the company will soon talk about their upcoming i-Cockpit infotainment system which is when we can confirm whether they are switches to control the air conditioner or perform an entirely different function.
An official unveiling is to take place in the following weeks before which Peugeot may release official, high resolution photographs of the cockpit they are building for a while now. The interface is also speculated to be used in the upcoming 3008 and 5008 SUV models. There may be iterations of the console after launch, based on what users opine about it.
