The 2016 Mercedes C-Class coupe is expected to be one of the highlights during next month’s Auto Show in Frankfurt, Germany.
Ahead of the Frankfurt Moto Show, spy pictures have caught the body of the 2016 coupe and the photos reveal a new profile of the popular coupe.
The C-Class coupe will have to compete with the likes of Audi A5 and BMW 4, but it looks as if the sports car is more than equipped for that battle.
The new, sleeker profile of the coupe is easily noticed in the spy photos. The new version of the coupe is smoother, sleeker and draws more inspiration from the bigger brother, the 2017 S-Class coupe. One of the biggest changes Mercedes has done is to remove the door B-pillars, which results in more elegant and frameless look of the C-Class coupe.
The new roofline of the new Mercedes C-Class coupe has its consequences, especially in the inside. No more than four people can sit inside the coupe. The coupe has four, strict seats and the middle seat is removed and replaced with a console. The rear seats have undergone a redesign as well. In the 2016 C-Class coupe, the rear seats are moved forward as well as inward with a simple goal: increase room for head and shoulders in the back of the car. The result is more coziness and comfort passengers, but only four of them can tag alone. The front seats are placed 20mm lower than the previous versions which adds a more sporty feeling to the coupe. When the doors are closed, the seatbelts are automatically presented to the front passengers. The little trick saves the front passengers, time, from reaching back to retrieve the seatbelts.
Under the hood, the upcoming C-class is expected to sport a 2.0 liter turbo engine that produces more than 230hp. The 2016 C-Class coupe will end the era of V6 engines, as Mercedes has replaced the engine with a straight-six cylinder one. The new coupe will be much faster than its predecessor and one of the reasons is the reduced weight.
The C-Class was able to shed more than 100kg thanks to the new MRA platform that Mercedes is using for the upcoming models. The standard C-Class also has the new MRA platform.
The C-Class coupe will be available in standard C300 model, but also in an AMG configuration. The C63 AMG version will come with a 4.0 liter V8 engine with a rear wheel drive and dual-clutch transmission with seven speeds. The AMG C63 should produce somewhere around 500hp and is expected later in 2016.
The starting price of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe is expected in the range of $60,000 for the base model. The AMG version can go as high as $150,000.
