The auto brand is getting ready to officially launch the MG ZS at the Guangzhou motor show in China next month.
With just weeks to go, spy shots of the car had leaked online giving us an early glimpse of what to expect at the auto expo.
The images give us a complete overview of how the upcoming baby SUV would look like. The ZS will be officially available at the expo on November 18th. The version that is spotted in the spy shots are camouflaged and doesn’t show the best design elements of the car. It is also evident that the one spotted uses a production body for the first time in many months. With the car being close to launch, the company has finalized the components, design and is all set to send it to production.
Based on information gathered so far, the new model is expected to be powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine. An optional choice could be the three-cylinder turbo engine which will be part of the MG lineup. The new car which is part of the high-performance sector will use the ZS badge.
Talking about their future plans, MG’s marketing head Matthew Cheyne commented that there has been an unexpected level of demand for SUVs and crossovers. The segment has become so crowded at the moment but customer demand continues to exist, forcing every other automobile brand to focus in the segment. The brand is planning to add a smaller version of the crossover powered by a 1.5-liter engine which will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox system. An automatic transmission with DCT seven-speed setup is also in the cards for the smaller car.
While the brand is planning on making the powerful crossover yet, they are also keen to offer fuel efficiency like never before. The new MG ZS should be efficient as the Nissan Qashqai. The same MG platform will be used to construct multiple cars including a Juke, an X-Trail rival and the ZS.
While MG has been making a lot of conventional cars including multiple large vehicles, the team has plans to launch an all-electric model so that their brand stays relevant in the ever-changing automobile industry. The Dynamo is the first model in the series and there might be more launches in the segment based on how well it performs. It is a huge leap for every top brand to go all-electric than just make plug-in or hybrid variants.
