2017 Hyundai i30 Hybrid Set to Lead the Hybrid Range of Cars

2017 Hyundai i30

Hyundai is working on its next generation of cars including the i30 hatchback. Spy pictures of the model has emerged online giving us a glimpse of the car before it could officially debut for the general public.

The next gen i30 cars are expected to be purely hybrid and is the flagship model for many other cars to come in the near future. The upcoming 2017 edition of the i30 is the top model which will sit alongside the Hyundai Ioniq electric cars. The spy photos as expected is not something that is going to give you a clear view of what to expect. Instead, the car is totally camouflaged in it making it difficult to make out its design and exterior finish.

The cabin quality in the new i30 hybrid hatchback is going to receive an extreme upgrade with state-of-the-art dashboard and support for multiple connectivity features. Hyundai is keen on upgrading the I series models so that they are on par in terms of design and finish when put against the Tucson and Ioniq models.

It is also expected that the new range of i30 cars will be powered by powertrains used in the Ioniq models. Electrified powertrains already being used in Ioniq cars will directly be integrated in the I series cars. Other cars that are under the Hyundai brand are also said to be upgraded to plug-in hybrids and hybrid models so as to meet the tight regulations set by the European government.

Ioniq was first revealed at the Geneva motor show this year with three different powertrains. The surprising element of them all was that the engineers at Hyundai managed to integrate all the different powertrains in the same body shell. The brand had a model to compete every offering in the market at the moment. It had one to rival the Toyota Prius and one to go against the Nissan Leaf.

According to EU regulations, all cars are supposed to maintain their CO2 emissions at 95g/km by 2021. Hyundai is taking all the necessary steps to achieve the target in due time. The automobile manufacturer is keen on introducing their hybrid technology to mainstream customers. In a statement, the brand’s representative confirmed that they are looking at 2021 to have a complete lineup of cars, with one model for every requirement. The idea is to satisfy the needs of every customer in a uniform manner.

Hyundai Planning To Launch 200-Mile Electric Car In 2018

Hyundai is going to give Tesla a touch competition when they launch the Model 3 electric carin 2018.

New reports indicate that the company is going to launch an EV which will have a solid 200-mile range.

The information comes from aleading automobile magazine and sounds authentic. Hyundai has already launched their I series cars which focus on electrifying the vehicles. The idea is to give a tough competition to Tesla. If they manage to make a car which could run 200 miles on a single charge. Currently, two different hybrid vehicles are being offered by Hyundai which can cover a meager distance of27 miles on its electric motor. The Ioniq family is a breakthrough as the engineers managed to achieve at least 110 miles on a single charge. It made it easier for passengers to travel good distances before a recharge is necessary.

Hyundai is establishing a strong relationship with its sister concern Kia. The companies plan to build a large lineup of electric vehicles and double the numbers before 2020. Earlier, the team announced that they will launch at least 26 vehicles by the end of this decade. Now, they added that there will be two more vehicles to join the line. Kia is going to come up with an electric soul hatchback with 93 mile range when fully charged. Optima hybrid sedan is also in the cards which the brand has planned to revamp to suit the modern generation. A Niro hybrid car is in the charts but one or more of these models may not make it to the stores.

While Hyundai is planning its own strategy, Volkswagen announced that they are going to constructed a Giga factory as done by Tesla. Every last company is inspired by the electric automaker Tesla without doubts because they are copying their every move. But, it obviously leads to better results. If successful, Volkswagen will be able to construct hundreds of electric cars without delay. The Giga factory will make it easier to construct large batteries efficiently and also help increase the mile range of each model they construct.

Not only Hyundai, Volkswagen and Kia but brands including Ford, Nissan, BMW and Mercedes Benz have their own version of hybrids as well as EVs lined up for launch in the future. Most of them are eyeing a launch in 2018 which seems to be the sweet spot to introduce such an innovative technology to change the automobile world.

First Ever Hyundai N Performance Model Is Coming In 2017

Hyundai is all set to show the world what they have been working on.

The N performance variant of cars is going to get launched in 2017.

Speaking to a leading auto magazine, the N brand’s head Albert Biermann said the i30 will be the first car in the lineup to get launched. The high performance variant car has been named as Elantra in the United States. It is expected to be built on the next generation hatchback models and the current generation will soon bid goodbye to the region.

Earlier, Hyundai announced that they have three performance based variants heading to take part in the grand Nurburgring 24 hour endurance race. Out of the three cars, one of them is the i30 2.0T. The car has been specifically designed and upgraded with lot of performance components by the engineers at the N performance division. Hyundai is launching its Veloster Turbo and the i30 1.6 Turbo. The brand managed to win the championship last year and are defending their title this year.

The N performancevariant of the i30 N is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which has a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The tweaked version of the engine is expected to provide increased performance on the track. There is no word on pricing from the company but Biermann, head of the division said that they have planned to make the car affordable. It is definitely not going to be a commuter’s vehicle because of it being a sports performance variant. The car uses a manual gearbox system by default but buyers will have the option to go for an automatic transmission in the near future after the initial launch.

A wide range of changes are made to the racing cars set to showcase their mettle at the Nurburgring race. It includes a newly tweaked, high performance variant of the engine combined with new suspension, dampers, steering and wide bumpers for greater comfort even at top speed. The 2.0-liter turbo four engine found in the i30 is set to offer 259 horsepower combed with 227 lb feet of torque.

Apart from the exterior changes and upgraded components, the cars done by the N Performance will also have exclusive N badging on all their cars to differentiate them from other models. In the future, the division has planned to implement hybrid powertrains. They have plenty of innovative ideas which will be rolled out in different phases.

2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco Priced at $21,485 For the Base Model

The pricing for the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco has been announced.

The base model in the lineup has been priced at $21,485. The price includes destination charges of $825 making it an attractive deal that most buyers will usually go for.

Instead of focusing too much on design and speed, the Elantra Eco is a car made to offer the best of fuel efficiency. There are many automobile manufacturers who never compromise in terms of performance. However, Hyundai has always been a brand associated with customer friendly features such as headroom, space and fuel efficiency. The new Elantra is focused on the offering the best efficiency as rated by the EPA. The association has rated the car to offer 32 mpg in city, 40 mpg in highway while a combined efficiency is pegged at 35 miles per gallon.

With gasoline prices being extremely affordable in recent times, people who are not keen on paying a premium for electrified cars may go for the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco. Companies like Tesla, Nissan and Chevrolet are planning to bring cheaper EVs to the market. However, it will take another two years for these models to hit dealership stores. Those who are looking forward to buy a car immediately has no other choice but to go for the ones readily available.

The Elantra Eco is powered by a 1.4-liter turbo four cylinder which is capable of producing 128 horsepower with 156 lb feet of torque. The numbers are on the mediocre side but they usually satisfy the requirements of an average consumer. The engine uses a seven speed dual clutch transmission system. The top end of the lineup offers a more powerful 2.0-liter I4 engine which renders 147 horsepower with 132 lb feet of torque. It uses a six speed automatic transmission engine.

A list of standard features is found in the Eco version of the Elantra designed to woo its customers. It includes support for Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity features, front seats with heating capability, blind spot detection and dual zone climate control. The trunk has hands free opening system to easily store your baggage. These features are usually provided as an add-on in other variants of the car.

Apart from the Elantra Eco, Hyundai has plans to launch a GT hatchback and a sports version of the car. The Eco version is expected to hit stores this summer in all regions.

Hyundai’s Connected Car is Capable of Repairing Itself On the Go

In the recent past, Toyota shared their idea to roll out connected cars and how Microsoft will help them achieve their goal.

Hyundai just jointed the race and added that they are working on cars which should have the capability to repair itself on the go.

The company confirmed that instead of rolling out overtly futuristic ideas, they are going to focus on short term goals. The first step is to make it exceptionally easy for any smartphone and other devices to connect to a car. It includes Apple Car Play and Android Auto features besides the company’s own proprietary system. The motto “Connect Cars to Life” is Hyundai’s correct objective. Once they have achieved it, they are moving towards a futuristic goal which may take another five years or so to be fully accomplished.

In their visionary world, Hyundai will roll out cars which uses smart remote maintenance services. The service will allow their engineers to directly communicate with a vehicle, diagnose problems if any and fix them while the passenger is using it. The idea is not straight from a science fiction movie because computer software developers are already doing it. Microsoft has been rolling out security updates to protect Windows for a long time and it may do the same for the automobile industry.

Besides, Hyundai strongly believes that the connected cars will hardly face any issues because of the regular maintenance solutions offered by them. Apart from repairing them on the go, they will be able to read lot of important statistics including traffic updates, road infrastructure, driving patterns among others. It will help them tune the autonomous features in the model to make them progressive and stay aware of changing user trends.

Cloud technology will be used to its best level to allow Hyundai to achieve this. They have already launched a dedicated research and development team to make it possible. Mobility Hub, an exclusive feature from the manufacturer will be added to all future cars allowing them to communicate with one another as well as the engineers.

A hyper, connected and intelligent concept car from Hyundai will soon make its way to any of the upcoming auto expos. It is the first step towards creating a future where everything runs on its own. Besides, it may also lead to the time when people no longer have to drive cars and rest while the vehicle navigates through tricky traffic conditions.

Hyundai Releases Official Images and Teaser for Ioniq EV 2016

Hyundai is taking a definitive plunge into the world of electric cars and the Ioniq 2016 edition is their key to unlocking a brand new world of vehicles that run on electric motors.

The brand has confirmed that they will be launching a PHEV variant and a petrol electric hybrid model as well. When the Ioniq was officially announced, it was expected that the vehicle will be fully electric on launch. However, in order to appeal to a wide range of audience and to make the brand more marketable, Hyundai has decided to introduce hybrids as well.

Industry sources already tout that Hyundai has done an amazing job by offering the same model in three different powertrain variants. Tesla offers its cars, only with electric motors while most companies prefer to go with hybrids or plug-in models. The brand has broken the conventional rules to create something that is unique. There is something for buyers from all strata and with varying budgets as well as requirements.

An official teaser video has been released on YouTube to give the buyers a perspective into what the cars in the Ioniq range have to offer. It is powered by a 1.6-liter Kappa GDi engine and has a total power of 103 horsepower, combined with 108 lb feet of torque. When combined with the electric motor, the car gets a boost of 43 horsepower which is not significant, but will add better performance as a whole.

The upcoming hybrid vehicles are mounted on the brand new Niro platform. Hyundai, in their official statement, said, “With the new platform, riders will experience an all-new level of control and stability in the car. It is made using advanced high quality, lightweight steel and aluminium. The overall weight as been reduced in multiple components used to build the car”.

In the set of official pictures the company launched, they have also shown the interior of the Ioniq car for the first time. The photos show a cabin made of plastic and plenty of eco-friendly materials. They are lightweight, yet robust and provide a luxurious appearance. Chrome colored trim and leather is used in specific points to add to its aesthetics.

The company believes that they will be setting a new benchmark in the world of hybrid cars and push electric cars much further. Making EVs viable for the general public in terms of pricing and mileage is what manufacturers are aiming at, at the moment.

Hyundai Readying a New SUV Powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Everyone is experimenting with alternative fuel cells and Hyundai is no different. The company is working on a new SUV which will use hydrogen cells and expected to have a massive 500-mile range.

The time to bid adieu to traditional gasoline powered vehicles has come. Almost every next manufacturer is trying to usher in a brand new range of vehicles. They are all hybrids, plug-ins or fully electric cars. At a time like this, Hyundai and Toyota are working to innovate hydrogen fuel cells.

The model in question is the ix35 SUV and Hyundai will be building it on top of an existing platform. It will allow them to get to building cars much faster without the need to have a three- month start-up period. While many of these are expected to be work in progress concepts, the actual SUV is scheduled for a 2020 launch.

With four years to go, time may fly with all the inventions and innovations taking place around the buyer crowd. While most manufacturers are looking at developing sedans because they consume less fuel and are friendly for experimental ideas, Hyundai is going a step ahead with SUVs. Even the most popular electric car maker Tesla had to start with the Model S SUV before they moved onto the Model X SUV which had an amazing falcon wing doors and larger leg room.

According to the company, the car will be mounted on a SUV body and will sport an impressive mile range of 500 miles on a single charge. They are completely different from the traditional lithium ion battery and if it succeeds, it could pave the way for cars powered by batteries than the usual gasoline and diesel.

Hyundai representative added that customers are always asking for more space in the SUV segment. They want better space to sit, store their luggage and travel long distances in complete comfort. The large fuel tanks have always posed an issue which will be totally bypassed once they opt for hydrogen fuel cells. They are much smaller in size, but offer great mileage, providing the right balance between comfort and fuel efficiency.

It looks like we are fast approaching a world filled by vehicles that hardly rely on fuel and if they become autonomous as expected, driving a car would never be a problem again. After all, you can just rest while letting the bots do all the work.

Hyundai Ioniq Cars are a Mix of Conventional Design with Futuristic Attributes

Creating a car which can blend conventional design elements buyers are familiar with and adding futuristic attributes to them is a difficult proposition and Hyundai has accomplished this with their Ioniq concept models.

For the first time, the company is going to launch an entire series of cars which will be powered by electric motors. They are not plugins or hybrids which makes them exceptionally exotic than the range Hyundai has now. Instead of going with it under their usual brand name, Hyundai prefers to establish something new so that it could withstand competition in a future filled with all electric vehicles.

The automobile manufacturer has released an official concept art of the car. The image shows a car which has been aerodynamically optimized to the core. You won’t be blamed if you assumed that it resembles a jet fighter more than an actual commuter’s car. The rear of the car is extremely high, which is quite different from the likes of Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius. These two are the most popular competitors in the market at the moment.

However, when Hyundai officially brings their big guns out in several months’ time, it would have probably changed a lot. Tesla, the unopposed king of electric cars will be facing a whole lot of competition like never before.

On the inside, it is expected that even though extremely slim, the car will have amazingly spacious interiors. There is cabin room to store enough luggage for four passengers and the center of the dashboard has been optimized so as to make it look clutter free. The infotainment system will be totally touch friendly and will support all latest connectivity options when the vehicle gets an official launch.

Hyundai added that the seats and other elements used to construct the vehicle are eco-friendly. The concept images also revealed the interiors which are equipped with cool blue seats with a nice trim. In its first edition, the Ioniq range of cars will be available in three different variants. The first one is all-electric as promised and the second will carry a gasoline engine fused with an electric motor.

The hybrid Ioniq is expected to appeal to majority of the audience who are still skeptical about adopting a technology that has little support on highways. The third could be a plug-in car or a whole new variant of sedan. Hyundai will showcase their concept ideas at the CES and other auto expos.

2016 Hyundai Veloster is a Non-Muscle Car That’s Stylishly New

When you have the opportunity to take a first look at the 2016 Hyundai Veloster, it might probably resemble a muscle car but it’s not!

The surprise package comes from Hyundai at the most unexpected time of the year. However, such sporty and affordable cars are a gem of the find which could get easily lost if you don’t notice them. The model has been around for almost five years now, with the first one that got launched in the 2011. The body of the car is strongly based on the Hyundai Accent and has the same turbocharged engine, but varies in terms of external design.

In the 2016 Hyundai Veloster, the car manufacturer offers a brand new Rally Edition. As with many other editions, this is going to be one of the most powerful Velosters on road, because the manufacturer has integrated some new parts to make it amazingly fast. With a performance boost, the pricing gets a slight bump, but it is still affordable when compared to many other vehicles in the same class.

On the inside, the car is powered by a 1.6 liter four cylinder engine which uses direct injection technology. It is capable of delivering 138 horsepower, enough for most everyday commuters and users who don’t demand much from their vehicles. There is a force fed version of the car, also known as the Rally Edition. It delivers 201 horsepower and has 195 lb feet of torque. The car uses a six speed manual transmission system, but if you are going to expect more power from it than the Golf GTI from Volkswagen, you might be disappointed.

However, for everyone else, the features, performance and the price ratio make it an ideal combination. The 2016 Hyundai Veloster is spacious in design with considerable legroom and headroom for the passengers. If you are planning to go for it, the Rally Edition priced at a moderate $27,199 excluding delivery charges is the best option. It not only provides more power and performance for the model, but also has better handling due to the boosted engine system integrated into it.

Hyundai has confirmed that they will be selling limited editions of the Rally car in Canada, among other regions. It is proposed to be a special car that select owners have, rather than a conventional model found all over the city. The coupe does its job which is what buyers expect from any purchase they make.

2011 and 2012 Hyundai Sonata Sedans Recalled for Fixing of Engine Problems

In the wake of Volkswagen’s and Fiat Chrysler’s latest issues with the EPA, Hyundai have made a swift move by recalling close to half a million Hyundai Sonata sedans so that engine problems can be fixed.

According to the latest reports, Hyundai feels that the recalled Sonatas may be having some engine parts that are prone to problems that may cause the engine of the mid-size sedan to fail.

470, 000 Hyundai Sonata sedans recalled

To be precise, Hyundai has recalled 470,000 Sonatas starting from the models that were rolled out in 2011 and 2012, but only those with 2-liter or 2.4-liter gasoline powertrains. During these releases, the Hyundai Sonata was the top selling model for this automaker in the U.S.

Hyundai blames possible engine failures on metal debris

In a report that was published on Friday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it seems Hyundai is laying the blame of the potential failure of engines of Sonatas on metal debris. The auto maker says that these materials may not have been properly removed from the crankshaft when it was being manufactured in Alabama. With this debris, it is possible for oil to be restricted from flowing to the connecting rod bearings. Since these rod bearings are cooled by oil, failure is very possible and eventually the engine could fail or stall and lead the driver into a crash.

The good news for the company is that there are no reports of any Sonata crashes that have been caused by this problem.

So, why recall the Hyundai Sonatas now?

Hyundai Sonata engines were the first to be produced at Hyundai’s Alabama engine plant. During the 2011 production process, a mechanical process was used in the extraction of metal debris from the crankshaft. However, the process was revised and changed in 2012, with high pressure wet blasting coming in for removing the same metal materials from the crankshaft.

The inspection of the 2011 and 2012 Sonatas will be done by any Hyundai dealer and in case of need for replacements; the whole thing will be free. It has also been reported that the engine warranty will be increased to 120,000 miles or 10 years. The company said that it will notify owners beginning November 2 and the second notice will come in when the parts are available.

100,000 Hyundai Accent models recalled too

The list does not end there; rather, there are also another 100,000 Accent small cars that have been recalled by the same company, but this time the issue is related to possible failure of brake lights.

The recall will be covering certain 2009-2011 models, which the company claims is just an expansion of a 2013 recall. According to the company’s report, the brake light switch of the Accent could fail, leading to failure of lights, even when the driver steps on the brakes. In addition, it was noted that stepping on the brakes may not disable cruise control. Just like with the case of Hyundai Sonata models, there are no reported cases of accidents caused by this problem on Hyundai Accent models.

The brake switch replacement process will kick-off on November 2.

2016 Hyundai Tucson and 2016 Hyundai Sonata Earn IIHS Top Safety Rating, But Come with a Price

Hyundai continues to earn top safety awards for cars in its palette and the latest two new members to the club are the 2016 Hyundai Sonata and the 2016 Hyundai Tucson.

Both the sedan and the SUV received the Top Safety Pick award at the same time, thanks to a new front crash prevention system. However, the new safety features come at a price.

The 2016 Tucson has made a huge improvement in the safety area, earning rating of “good” in the small overlap front crash test. The 2016 Tucson managed to earn six point score, surviving the crash at both speeds of 12mph and 25mph. During the test, the SUV showed just six inches of intrusion in the driver’s and passenger’s section, which is a huge improvement, considering that the last time the Tucson was tested, that number was 16 inches.

The previous version of the Sonata was already good, but it seems like Hyundai wanted a higher rating than the “acceptable”. With the new safety features, including the autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning, the Sonata earned top safety pick.

However, not every buyer of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson and 2016 Hyundai Sonata will get the safety features that helped the vehicles earn top rating by IIHS. In order to get all the safety features, prospective buyers will have to pay more than $30k for a car that costs around $20k in its base model version.

For example, to get the safety features in the Tucson, you need to pay extra $2,750 and that is only available if you are buying the top tier Limited trim version. The package brings the price of the 2016 Tucson up to $30,795. For the Sonata, the safety feature is part of the Ultimate Package that costs $1,750. And the trick is, to get the Ultimate package; you need the Tech package as well, which costs additional $3,100. That will bring the price of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Limited trim up to $33,035, and even more if you want the quicker and faster version with a 2.0-liter engine.

Hyundai should be applauded for the introduction of those safety features, but the company is known for providing more affordable vehicles. Should Hyundai decide to offer the safety features for lower end trims, it will be even better. Considering the fact that Toyota might add autonomous braking and emergency warning to its base models by 2017, Hyundai will have to catch up.

2017 Hyundai Elantra Debuts in Korea with More Powerful Engine and Better Design

While many expected the 2017 Hyundai Elantra to have its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show which kick starts on September 15, the Korean brand confirmed it in an announcement a week earlier, in its native country.

A new compact sedan, under the name Avante, will make a debut and Hyundai showcased what fans can expect from their new vehicle and we must say we are excited.

The sixth generation of the compact sedan offers a better design overall, with the company installing a new, hexagonal grille up front, accompanied by narrower headlights. Other notable design changes include the wide taillights, as well as rear windshield and raked C-pillars. The low hood profile is just the cherry on the icing. The result is a sportier, more aggressive look of the Elantra that looks very similar to the Genesis. The 2017 Elantra is 1 inch wider than the previous version and 0.8 inches longer, providing more space inside the vehicle.

Inside, the company has installed the new horizontally oriented dash which we previously saw in the new Hyundai Sonata. The center features a large display and several rows of control buttons below the display. New tech goodies making their way to the Elantra include autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Hyundai will offer the 2017 Elantra with three different engines. The entry model is a 1.6-liter four cylinder engine with direct injection system producing 130hp. There will also be a 1.6-liter diesel engine. The top of the class will be a 2.0-liter engine with Atkinson-cycle system producing 147hp. The Elantra will be offered with three different transmission options, depending on what engine you choose. The basic is a six speed manual gearbox, but there is also a six-speed automatic gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission available.

We mentioned that the 2017 Hyundai Elantra will come with a bevy of new tech goodies and most of them will focus on safety and security. Among the many electronic driver aids we see forward collision warning and automatic high-beams. With so many safety features, the 2017 Elantra will be among the more secure sedans, even at a bargain compact price.

The US version of the Elantra will debut during the Los Angeles motor show scheduled for late November, and we expect the car to hit dealerships in early 2016.
