Volvo S90 Excellence Promises Immersive Luxury, Launched in China

Volvo S90 Excellence

The Volvo S90 Excellence has officially been launched in China.

The automobile manufacturer promised that people who opt for the car will be able to experience a whole new level of immersive luxury, made possible by premium components and a spacious build.

There is no word on bringing this exquisite Volvo car to the rest of world and Chinese buyers will be an exclusive lot who will be able to enjoy many of the perks it provides. The flagship model is constructed on top of the extensively large wheelbase already being used in the S90 L edition. An official launch event was held in Shanghai today to announce the car and highlight its features. During the expo, it’s best aspects were explained which includes a panoramic roof, adjustable footrest which rear passengers can alter as they need and fold-out work tables similar to the one found in airplanes.

While the standard model is more of a traditional car, the designers have taken a daring plunge in terms of design with the new Volvo S90 Excellence. The car’s front passenger seat has been removed and in its place, you will find a ‘Lounge Console’ the first of its kind that offers a premium experience on the go. It is similar to the setup found in limousines. The company didn’t confirm any release date for the S90 and its availability in other regions. However, they did confirm that there are plans to roll down the model in due time. The Excellence edition will be manufactured in a plant in China and sold within the region.

A slew of luxury features is part of the car including an immersive surround sound system, infotainment controls, neatly packed in storage areas, cup holders with coolers and touchscreen interfaces to allow rear seat passengers to control the content. It also includes a mini fridge that boasts of handmade crystal glass, exclusively handmade by the manufacturer Orrefors from Sweden.

The car will be powered by T4, T5 petrol engines and a T8 twin hybrid engine is also in the cards. Volvo has not announced the actual pricing for the model in China. It is expected to be somewhere around £60,000 when converted in UK pounds. Safety features in the Volvo S90 Excellence include pilot assist, semi-autonomous driving, large animal detection and driver assistance features. The system also supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity systems. The S90L and S90 Excellence will be displayed at the upcoming Guangzhou auto expo.

Five Things Every Car Lover Should Know About the Spanking New Volvo S90

Volvo is all set to take over the battle of the luxury cars to its arch rivals like BMW-5 series, Mercedes E-class, and the yet-to-come Jaguar XF, with its dashing new S90, that is prepped for a 2017 release.

The S90 is the second car from the Swedish carmaker since it was acquired by the Chinese automaker, Geely with the XC90 SUV being the first car to be launched by the automaker.

The S90 was unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, with the interior of the car currently displayed at Volvo’s Excellence Concept at the Volvo Shanghai outpost to honor the actual release of the automobile. The sculpture graphically illustrates the possible variations within the clunker’s interior design.

The S90 comes with some really fascinating features and is bound to become one of the spellbinding India-bound luxury limousines.

  1. The New Crown Jewel at Volvo

Succeeding the slow-selling and the aging S80, which till date was the biggest sedan from Volvo, the S90 is bigger, wider and longer than its predecessor. It is much more luxuriously assembled than the other models. It is equipped with a mobile working station which has a foldable work table, a big multimedia screen for video conferencing or to check e-mails, entertainment mode to watch TV and movies, a lounge-like function with a refrigerator for beverages, a heated foot support, and reclining seats.

  1. It is Long….Like Really Long

The new whopping S90 is longer than the S80 and its other rivals like the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class, and the Audi A6. The S90 is almost 18 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. However, it comes only second when compared to the upcoming Jaguar XF, which is even bigger at a massive 5,067 mm.

  1. Unsurprisingly Spacious

The S90 can seat 5 passengers. The large dimensions of S90 give the automobile extensive interior space. Additionally, it has focused more on the rear seat space by forgoing the front passenger seat, which provides unrestricted front visibility. Thus, the owners of the car who are chauffeur-driven will really appreciate the liberal amounts of legroom in the rear seat. The extra sense of space and light brings extremely calming effect.

  1. Luxurious Interiors

The entire interiors of the new S90 is a blend of the incredible Scandinavian materials which include blond leather, solid beeline walnut wood, and satin metal detailed with jewelry. The Design Team of Volvo Cars has installed a central control panel for functions like cup holders, which can be heated or cooled, and for massage functions, in the rear side of the car. The rear armrest is complete with crystal glasses that are hand-cut and manufactured by the famous Swedish glassmaker Orrefors, while the intense sound system from Bowers & Wilkens showcases the 20 speakers which have a power of 1,400 Watts.

  1. Powerful Diesel Engines

The car is expected to arrive with an In-line 4 cylinder, 2.0 liter, twin-turbo, 250hp ‘D4’ diesel engine which will be stationed under the hood. This should be most probably followed by an even more powerful In-line 4 cylinder, 2.0 liter, 316hp version of the engine badged as ‘D5’. The robust version will come with an all-wheel-drive.

Volvo has started to roll the ball towards booking the S90. The Swedish automaker is likely to price the S90 D4 with a T5 Momentum at $46,950 MSRP, while the more powerful D5 with T6 AWD Momentum at $52,950. Volvo aspires to offer a Rolls-Royce like feel to the S90 but at a more affordable price, extra protection, and voluminous luxury.

Volvo S90 and V90 Polestar Editions Aiming To Reach 600 Horsepower

New rumors from the stable of Volvo indicates that the Polestar models of the S90 and the V90 is in production.

The company’s research and development team confirmed that they are indeed going to expand the lineup.

Peter Mertens, the R&D chief confirmed the news. He said that both the S90 and the V90 will have its Polestar versions which may have the capacity to reach up to 600 horsepower. Volvo USA added that they are not planning to bring the model to the country even though Mertens expressed his interest to see them being sold in the U.S. According to sources, the new car will be powered by a hybrid powertrain which comes as a pleasant surprise.

The expected output is 600 horsepower which could even go higher based on the platform they choose and the tweaks made to the engine. The upcoming cars from Volvo will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with internal combustion technology. The powertrain can deliver up to 450 horsepower while the two additional electric engines will provide up to 150 horsepower to achieve the said output.

Inside sources confirmed that the electric motors are the same as the ones being used in the plug-in hybrid versions. The motor is capable of producing up to 87 horsepower and two of them will be used to so as to exert the maximum horsepower from the electric motors. The version to be used in the S90 and the V90 is tweaked to offer much higher performance than the existing models.

If the numbers are something to go by, the Polestar edition of the Volvo S90 and the V90 is going to be give a tough competition to the Mercedes AMG and the BMW M division models. All these companies are going to showcase their best performance so as to convince the buyers to go for their brand. The powertrain continues to be the same V8 on all these cars. However, it is the technology the engineers use to give an added boost to their respective models.

Meanwhile, the top brands including Volvo are working on fully electrified versions of their models. Most of them are scheduled to get launched in 2018 or later which should give even time for the research and development team to perfect the technology before it is rolled out to the mainstream audience. Tesla will also be launching its Model 3 car in the same year.

Luxurious Lounge Class Interiors Coming to Volvo S90

Volvo S90 is getting a significant upgrade as part of which the manufacturer is looking forward to add luxurious lounge class interior console to the car. It was shown at the 2016 Beijing auto show.

The Lounge Console is expected to be part of the S90 Excellence sedan which is going to be the top of the lineup in the series. The sedan is expected to offer the best level of luxury in every perspective and provide customers whole new ways to explore entertainment. The company’s head added that they have witnessed positive response from all their users who have had the chance to use the center console.

“The Lounge Console Concept found in the XC90 tries to replicate reality where everything is usually available at a fingertip. The idea is to not integrate technology stuff but rather make them seamless. Our aim is to create a piece of art similar to a sculpture and many of the concepts from the previous years have found its way into the car,” said Robin Page. He is the vice president of interior design and takes responsibility to change it once for all.

Rear seats are completely detached from the front part and are equipped with a large center screen console. In order to depict how it works, the company has released an official image. It showcases a seat which is similar to the ones found in the first class section in airlines with huge cushions and complete movement control. The seats can not only be heated or cooled based on the temperature but can also be used to enjoy a massage on the go.

Using a massage chair in a car might sound like an overkill at the moment but Volvo strongly believes that when autonomous technology becomes mainstream, people will have plenty of time to relax and rejuvenate. They are expected to enjoy reading, talking to each other, watch movies, drink and maybe even want to get massaged like a SPA.

The center console is located between the seats and has two crystal glasses made by Orrefors. The front passenger seater is no longer found in the Volvo S90 excellence. There is no word on how it will be removed. It could either be folded or completely removed to act as a heated footrest. There’s a mobile working station, storage space and the screen is fully adjustable like one would do with a tablet.

Volvo S90 for Detroit Debut in January 2017: Set to Take on Mercedes E Class and BMW 5 Series

Volvo S90 is likely to make its debut in Detroit in January 2017. The new S90, expected to serve as a flagship model for Volvo, would take on the likes of Mercedes E Class, Audi and BMW 5 Series which have offered serious competition to its failing S80 model.

Volvo is hoping to leverage on the Swedish reliability and design to build the S90 to challenge the Audi 6, BMW Series 5 and Mercedes E Class. The S90 is seen as a revival strategy to counter its struggling S80. While BMW sold 373, 000 units of the 5 Series, Volvo was able to put only 12, 500 units on the road last year.

Volvo’s sports utility vehicle, the XC90, was launched this year; the first model to be introduced after the Swedish carmaker was bought over by Geely Holding Group Co, owned by Li Shifu, the Chinese billionaire. Li Shufu’s company acquired Volvo for $1.8 billion from Ford Motors in 2010 and now is expecting to see positive returns on the investment.

After the successful XC90, the S90 is the next attempt by the Swedish automaker to meet its strategy of increasing yearly sales to 800,000 units by the year 2020. As Volvo’s $11 billion investment program completes 5 years, it is going into a sensitive phase and plans to introduce a slew of new vehicles to achieve its sales strategy. Volvo is working on very slim profit margins; while BMW recorded an 8.9% profit margin in the first half of 2015 that of Volvo was 2.2%.

According to the company, nearly 80% of the buyers for Volvo’s upcoming S90 are expected to be new to the Volvo brand. Alain Visser, the company’s sales chief said during a press meet at the company’s Gothenburg headquarters, ‘The S90 will be the ultimate test. Of all the cars we’ll be launching in the next four years, from my point of view, the most challenging is S90’.

The XC90 was received very positively by customers with waiting time in Sweden being as long as 6 months driven by demand pressure. Yet, customers were opting for designs and models that are priced higher including the steeply-priced plug-in hybrid model, Visser said.

Volvo has already sold 65, 000 units of XC90, beating its yearly target of 50, 000 units now itself. Volvo’s midsize SUV, the XC60 is also available in the market. The company is looking at bringing a smaller version to target the crossover customers. CEO Hakan Samuelson said, ‘If you would pick some models being the most important to Volvo, it’s the SUV segment, which is growing rapidly and you need a smaller one, of course’. He added that the demand for smaller premium vehicles is increasing which is an attractive market for them.

After the S90 Detroit debut in January, the company is planning to launch the V90 wagon model which is expected to replace the present XC70/V70 models. Volvo will be missing from the Frankfurt Motor Show this year; instead, it plans to use pop-up stores or ‘Volvo-in-a-Box’ at places like food festivals in an attempt to stay within the allotted marketing budgets.

2016 Volvo S90 – Swedes Next Flagship Revealed in Scaled Down Model Car

It has been a while since Volvo was building flagship vehicles that can compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes. But after the success of the Volvo XC90, the 2016 Volvo S90 sedan is likely to be one of the company’s best sellers.

In the past few weeks, we saw numerous leaks and spy photos of the next flagship, but it seems like we finally have an idea how the car will look.

A Chinese model site has published several pictures of a scaled down model car. All pictures indicate that they are actually of the 2016 Volvo S90. The source is an interesting choice, seeing that the S90 will be produced by a Chinese-owned company. Experts believe that the model cars are built in China as well. In addition to the global launch, the 2016 S90 is also designed for the Chinese market.

So, what exactly do the pictures reveal? As expected, the design and the style of the S90 resemble to the Coupe and the Estate concepts that the Swedish company revealed back in 2013 and 2014. The result of those concepts was evident on the 2016 Volvo XC90 that appeared last year.

For the 2016 S90, Volvo will use the same upright grille that we saw on the XC90, along with the headlight look. The roofline of the S90 is very coupe-like, giving the sedan a proper sporty and luxurious outlook. On the back of the car, Volvo has placed a short rear deck, which is another touch in order to achieve coupe-inspired design. The tail-lamps have also undergone a redesign.

For a preview of the inside of the 2016 Volvo S90, prospective buyers can look to the XC90 and expect almost all of the features.

The pictures of the allegedly Volvo S90 appeared also on a Facebook page for Volvo model cars. One can only assume that the Facebook fan page has some Swedish members running it. The pictures cannot be verified at the moment and you should take them with a grain of salt.

When released, the 2016 Volvo S90 will compete with the likes of BMW 5 series and the E-class by Mercedes. Last year’s model, the XC90 SUV took a piece of the cake owned by BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE. We will have to see how the S90 will fare against the competition.

First Spy Photos of 2017 Volvo S90 Reveal Perfect Sedan Flagship

Last year, the Swedish company launched the XC90, a premium SUV that completely reinvented the design of the company. For next year, the company is planning the 2017 Volvo S90, which will likely be the flagship vehicle for the Swedes.

Spy photos recently caught the 2017 S90 on the test roads and while they do not show much, the luxury and premium feeling are there. The S90 will take things up a notch, as Volvo is determined to deliver an even more lavish vehicle than the XC90.

In terms of quality, the S90 will be superior, both inside and outside. For the inside section, Volvo has hired a former head of design for Bentley, Robin Page. Customers can expect great things from the next model that Page will design and that will be the 2017 S90.

The 2017 S90 will be the replacement for the older, S80 model. With release date rumoured to be either the Detroit Motor Show in January or the Geneva motor show, the 2017 Volvo S90 is expected at car dealerships in early to mid 2016. The 2017 S90 sedan will be part of the larger family, including the V90 station wagon and a cross country vehicle that is supposed to replace XC70.

And while the S90 should be more premium than the already released XC90, Volvo is applying some of the same principles into the sedan. For starters, the sedan will also use the Scalable Product Architecture, or SCA that Volvo used in its newly announced SUV. The result of the new platform is an abundance of space inside the cabin. One of the challenges is to deliver increased cabin, with a lot more space for features in the interior. If not, the S90 might end up being a utilitarian vehicle and Volvo doesn’t want that.

Considering that the XC90 and the S90 will share the same platform, customers can expect the same engine options as well. That means a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with four cylinders under the hood. The supercharged engine produces 316hp and is accompanied by an 8 speed automatic transmission.

As for the styling elements that the two vehicles will share, expect to see the same headlights on the S90, as well as the enormous touchscreen inside the sedan.

In terms of pricing, customers can expect slightly higher prices than other competitors, especially those coming from Germany (Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW), but with more standard equipment.
