Volkswagen is gearing up to launch a new premium saloon, the Arteon four door coupe.
The car will be revealed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in the month of March.
Before the launch, the car is now being tested on roads and spy photographers have managed to capture the vehicle in action. As expected, it is heavily camouflaged and gives us a little peak as to what to expect from this particular model. Some of the design aspects that we could find are the flowing roofline, the long rear overhang and the overall sleek finish. Right from the start, it is evident that Volkswagen is interested in making a sporty saloon that appeals to performance car lovers with a touch of practicality.
According to the company, the Arteon four door coupe is a totally new model which will be the ideal replacement for the CC. Volkswagen added that the new car will be a big leap for other cars in the class and will be such a performance driven variant that the company is planning to launch it as a flagship model. While VW has not made a comment on the same, we came to the conclusion based on the name and the details that got leaked so far.
The teaser spy photos show a sleek, low profile car which could probably be the right replacement that buyers are looking for to compete with the Mercedes CLS four door coupe. However, VW has other ideas as during press meets the company claimed that the Arteon will rather be a competitor for the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe. The pricing of the base model is expected to be around £30,000 and will be available in autumn next year in UK. The car will also be launched in U.S. and Europe next year but there could be slight variations in the actual launch date.
The new model introduces ‘horizontally accentuated’ look for the first time with this four door coupe with a large front grille, horizontal slants and large LED headlights. The front fascia is much different than what one would expect from a typical Volkswagen car and it is precisely the output the brand wants to achieve. They are going out of the conventional way and even had planned to use frameless windows, top hinged tailgate with an exceptionally large boot space. The total space when the rear seats are folded is expected to be around 1,700 liters. Safety features including driver assists, automatic emergency braking and semi-autonomous driving will be part of the Volkswagen Arteon.
